February Snow Moon

Another theme of this month’s Moon names is scarcity. The Cherokee names of Bony Moon and Hungry Moon give evidence to the fact that food was hard to come by at this time.

For your journal: How have you grown this past year? 5 years? 10 years? What challenges have you overcome? What education have you attempted? Have you learned a new skill or changed a perspective? Have you tried new cooking techniques, or changed jobs? Have you made new friends or changed your life in some way?

Notes: February 2022 is a Black Moon Month

A Black Moon is a modern phrase similar to Blue Moon. But, it is a month that has two new moons rather than two full moons. However, it is not an astronomical phrase. Since February is short (28-29 days) two different moon events can occur: either no new moon where January and March will each have two, or no full moon where January and March will each have two. Both situations make February a Black Moon Month.

A Black Moon signifies success and good luck.

This year, February is a Black Moon Month since there is no New Moon this month. A Black Moon Month only occurs about every 19 years.

Oh yes... it is a full moon alright.. I did try to get a picture but the moon is in the sky before the sun sets and I couldn't get it crisp enough. Bummer
